Hey, I talking with my wife about schools for our kids. Public, private, catholic.

I’m sure you went to Catholic school and can shed some light.

Actually, I went to a Baptist private school. But, you know, kinda the same, except I didn’t have to wear one of those naughty skirts (but I did have pig tails and the bottom of my shirt was usual tied into a knot).

I don’t know what I’m going to do when I have school age kids. I’ve thought about home schooling the first few years, and them maybe private school once they reach 4th or 5th grade. I kind of have this silly, silly dream that someday I’ll be spending my winters in New Zealand, but I guess that would really mess with my options.

I think a lot of it is luck. If I had graduated with the class above me, I would have been totally screwed up. They were a bunch of punks. Much of my junior and high school experiences were because of my friends, and not the school. Do you go to church? If your kid can be apart of a good sunday school or youth group, that can really do a lot of good- almost a bigger deal than the influences of school.

I always think of school in social terms, since I never have serious academic ambitions. That’s why my comments are focused on the social aspect. If you’re looking purely at raising super smart kids, then I’ve heard wonders about home-schooling, although those kids may turn out… maybe weird. I’ll send you a cool BusinessWeek article I read a bit ago talking about the latest home-schooling trends.

yea, i am afraid of the social aspect of raising kids. I mean look at us. Our main means of communication is an xbox live headset and filthy blog. yesterday i went outside after work and played hockey. I felt strange communicating with people face to face.
